Lightweight Morgan AERO Special

No information available

An interesting special competing at VSCC Prescott Hillclimb this August (2007) was J.Maeers' 1930 Morgan Aero, using a 1928 1,312 cc Vee twin engine - cryptically inscribed "RIP". I'm not sure whether it's a JAP or a Matchless engine, but whichever, it's air-cooled.

The car is unusual in that it has an aeroplane fabric cover over a slim, wooden strut frame, significantly lower than the standard bodywork profile. Rear wheel drive, as normal, but to two, braked rear wheels - without (I suspect) a differential, so very much a “" axle".

The static photo is clear enough, but I was only able to capture a fleeting image of the car in action. With a time of 49 seconds for the hill it was some 2 seconds faster that Bugattis in the same Class! As you can see, the driver sits “on it” more than in.

The picture was too fuzzy so I didn't include it - Editor
