Tool for forming a flange

Robin Martin

I didn't have a lot of joy with the "slot in a piece of wood" for forming the flange of the dashboard top so I made this instead. It’s a sandwich made from 3 x 25mm steel strip, and a couple of plastic offcuts (nylon I think). The plastic stops the material you are working on from getting marked. The sandwich "filler" is 1.5mm ali strip which seems to produce about the right slot width for working the 1.2mm ali used for the bodywork. (If you used 1.2mm for the filler it would be too tight.) By changing the length of the filler it's easy to change the width of the flange you want to create. The picture says the rest…

Cheers, Robin
