PEMBLETONS 2019 PYRENIAN MISCELLANY

Image

Most of you will now be aware that 2019 will mark the 20th year of Pembleton production
and 10 years - to the day, since we last traumatised the area. See epag No 35.

To celebrate this millstone of mechanical madness plans are afoot for an expedition of gargantuan magnitude, requiring determination, endurance and fortitude.
Only to be undertaken by the brave or foolish and equalled only by trips we’ve undertaken previously on many occasions.

GENERAL ITINERARY

PM Friday 31st May 2019

The 1st official rendezvous and overnight stop will be CHATELLERAULT

Either CAMPING MUNICIPAL LE CHILLOU
https://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/revi ... evid=15107

OR, if you have forgotten to pack sackcloth and ashes ........

IBIS HOTEL 10 AVE CAMILLE PAGE 86100 currently £52 double room.
https://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-06 ... ndex.shtml

The hotel and camping is about 1 mile apart so snoring should be barely noticeable from the hotel.

Chatellerault is circa 200 miles from St Malo and Caen, 250 miles Le Havre, 270 miles Cherbourg,
370 miles from Calais, 400 from Zeebrugge, so plan additional stops en route as required.

Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd June

2-night stopover with David Stevenson in MALBERNAT https://www.groupaccommodation.com/prop ... rs-france/

Saturday am-pm drive to Malbernat, about 210 miles, via Angouleme for lunch break. Collect dinner components en route.

Sunday, lazy day with optional local run out and lunch also an opportunity to collect less durable passengers from regional airports, train stations etc.
(if flight times fit a route via BEGERAC airport from CHATELLERAULT on Saturday may work)

David confirms the nearest regional airport is BEGERAC about 50 miles away.

TOULOUSE airport is another possibility and will add about 25 miles to Mondays trip to ARREAU

Monday 3rd - Friday 7th June - well it’s a bit up and down

Monday am. Head for the hills and ARREAU about 160 miles

Camping Municipal Arreau N.B campsite is at 500mtrs plan accordingly

Hotel Les balcons de la Neste

When booking the hotel the “confort” option provides towels, sheets etc.

Accommodation is available for up to 8 people so cost saving is possible if you share but only 1 underground parking space is included in the room rate.
Early booking recommended.

Tuesday – Weds –Thursday

More details to follow but generally enjoy the mountains and high cols, with possible forays into Spain and Andorra.

Friday 7th June Sat 8th June

2-night stopover in MALBERNAT

Friday

Return trip to MALBERNAT – airport drop off at TOULOUSE is possible

Saturday

Lazy day, return passengers to airports or stations, make new mudguard stays, lunch etc.

Sunday 9th June

Return trip to CHATELLERAULT (BEGERAC airport drop off if possible) and overnight stop.

Monday 10th June

Head for home.

Participants will need to make their own travel and accommodation reservations and payments.

Accommodation at MALBERNAT is reserved for us. Costs are to be advised in due course and dependant on numbers.
Please confirm ASAP to allow surplus accommodation to be sold.

Participation is at own risk and free of charge but limited to Pembleton owners & guests only.

Expect to cover 1500 to 1900 miles in France depending on port of debarkation.

An event entry form is in production and will be forwarded to interested parties in due course.

Further updates will be posted as plans coagulate, via the forum thread.

I have just had an email from David Stevenson wondering how many of the revellers are planning to visit either two days on the way down or perhaps two on the way back or indeed more as he has superb accommodation to use as a touring base as you will see here. http://www.malbernat-holidays.com/ His regular guests are starting to enquire for next year so if you are planning to visit David, please contact him and let him know, sooner rather than later.

Tom

PS Even if you have put it on the entry form, please contact David direct with your specific request.

The list of "cars" that have expressed interest is now up to 21. Just so you can factor it into your holiday plans for 2019 :-)

David, could you put me down for one please on the way down. I think Dave and Nicki will be coming too? There is the beginnings of a wee sub plot to visit a Steam Museum opening on the Lot at Saint Gery and to which we are welcome, it is on the 2nd of June and is just a gentle run out from Malbernat through the Lot valley. It is also near Saint Cirq Lapopie, a UNESCO site.
